STAR PLEAT DRESS ON VIEW AT V&A EAST

We are so pleased to share that the V&A acquisition of our DRS 143 Star Pleat Dress and TOP 122 Silk Cami from our WW SS16 collection, is now on display in the brand new V&A East Storehouse based in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.

The look is made up of a wide star form criss-crossing harness, which weaves itself across the top of the body and suspends into falling bunches of pleated linen.

All the elements of the garment carefully interweave with one another to give the impression of an articulated dress.

The idea was to visually encase the wearer in the garment with the striking cross crossing star across the torso. The static constraint across the torso of the body gives way to a frenetic but controlled mass of moving pleats which form the dynamic lower skirt part of the dress.

Creating the design in relation to 360 degrees of the human body was important and this piece was displayed at fashion week infront of large mirrors so that the back could be visible. This was a reflection, of the new dominance of social media use in fashion at the time and the flatness with which it gave fashion images. The use of the design being all the way around body and showing this with the mirror hoped to animate the body once again into a three dimensional experience.
