JULY | FERN
This is our monthly plant series, where we share a focus on the plants which feature in our most recent collection LOST TOUCH.
Each month or look includes a rendition of a plant that is in its full flush of growth during that month.
For July it’s Fern.
Our Fern is loosely based on the "Polypodiales" variety which derives from the Greek words polys (many) and pous (foot), referencing its numerous fronds which are similar to the feet of a centipede.
There are over 10 thousand known fern species in the world. ‘Polypodiales’ which are found growing widely throughout the world from tropical to temperate areas, have been growing since the Early Cretaceous period.
These sturdy yet feathery delicate stems round up towards glimpses of sunlight and have no seeds or flowers, reproducing from spores from underneath their horn shaped throngs. They create elegant, controlled, architectural lines in amongst shady and damp areas where other foliage often doesn’t grow and create beautiful shades of greens.
By providing shelter, shade, erosion protection, chemical sequestration and microhabitats, Ferns are incredibly important to biodiversity.
We have trapped our long fragile organza renditions in between two layers of silk tulle. Curling and delicately wrapping themselves through our Cloud Jacket and Trousers and emerging gently out from between the seams to break up the curving lines of these pieces.
We would be delighted to take you through the collection virtually or in person.
