AUGUST | WILD ROCKET
This is our monthly plant series, where we share a focus on the plants which feature in our most recent collection LOST TOUCH.
Each month or look includes a rendition of a plant that is in its full flush of growth during that month.
For August it is Wild Rocket.
Also known as, Diplotaxis tenuifolia. Diplotaxis is from the Ancient Greek, dipoles (twofold, or double) and tasso (put in order) which refers to the double row of seeds in each seed pod.
These plants can survive for a several days without water, whilst still flowering and being a food source for pollinators. Often popping up in urban areas means they are able to offer sustenance to pollinators in unlikely places such as the cracks in concrete in roads or pavements.
These sun seeking perennial plants offer edible peppery flavours with their leaves from Spring to Autumn. As we head into the height of summer, Wild Rocket starts to flower with small dainty brush strokes of electric bright yellow above chaotic stems and lush green leaves.
These exquisite tiny petals have been transcribed in our finest silks. These dainty flowerheads gently lay draped around the body, creating a similar feeling to waving your hand through a wild rocket patch.
