OCTOBER | CYCLAMEN

As we head into Autumn we continue to share our monthly plant series, where we focus on the plants which feature in our most recent collection LOST TOUCH.

Each month or look includes a rendition of a plant that is in its full flush of growth during that month.

For October it’s Cyclamen.

Inspired by Cyclamen hederifolium (Ivy-leaved Cyclamen), which is the most common wild type found in the UK. The species name ‘hederifolium’ comes from the Latin hedera (ivy) and folium (leaf), because of the shape and patterning of the leaves. ‘Cyclamen’ is a Latinized version of the ancient Greek kyklāmīnos (circle) which could reference that cyclamen petals grow in a spiral. They uncoil themselves from a tight twist as the bud opens. These characterful pink, dainty, engineered petals firmly point up to the light wherever they grow, forming scatterings of pink in shaded places such as woodlands.

Having laid dormant pre Summer, these plants flourish in Autumn when their buds burst open, providing much needed nectar to pollinators as the season changes. They are hardy and can grow in shady areas, often where other flowers can’t.

We have gestured to this Autumnal elegance in our October look by creating sculptural yet soft replicas of these petals, bursting across the body like stars. As you move, these silk organza petals gently hover whilst retaining their firm vertical stance. Each flower head has been engineered with small fabric hinges to create a sailing effect.

We would be delighted to take you through the collection virtually or in person.
